For the 2nd year in a row, 4-100K Softsuns were used to light the temporary basketball court that was constructed in the center of the Alamodome in San Antonio, TX for the NCAA Final Four.
As a consultant for the NHL and CBS, Lighting Director Bill Brennan needed a daylight source that was powerful enough to light the basketball court placed in the center of the football stadium without casting any shadows or hindering the sightlines of the players. The 100K Softsuns were extremely helpful in bringing up the overall level of lighting while providing superior color rendering with no shadows.
The 100K Softsuns became the primary lighting source for the National Televised Tournament on CBS and TBS.

The FINA 2013 International Swimming Championships is a spectacular example of live sports using 50K SoftSun lights. The competition, broadcast live around the world for two weeks from Spain, used four (4) 50K SoftSun lights to fully illuminate the swimming pool. The 50K SoftSun lights provided the FINA International High Definition HD Broadcast with stunning color rendered images and flawless non-pulsing super slow-mo replays.
The SoftSun lights are becoming the light of choice for the lighting of World Class Swimming events because of their outstanding features:
- Instant on with NO warmup time (unlike most stadium HID lights)
- Dimmable down to 10% and then ramped up to 100% with No Delay…ideal for use when introducing the swimmers in a theatrical setting
- Large Sources, so there are far fewer shadows

Ross-Ade Stadium was the site of a televised football game using 50K SoftSun lights. Multiple 50K SoftSun lights were used to illuminate the stadium for the recent NCAA football matchup between Purdue University and the University of Michigan that was televised on The Big 10 Network.
Several 50,000 Watt SoftSun lights, the world’s most powerful and controllable single source lights, were installed. This was the first time SoftSun lights were used in place of the traditional portable lighting towers to light a Big 10 late afternoon game.
The SoftSun lights provided a consistent soft light source across the entire field, and did not produce glare and long shadows that are common with traditional portable light towers. Furthermore, because the lights were placed on the sidelines and not in the end zone corners, the Quarterbacks and Receivers were not staring into lights.
The use of our 50,000 Watt SoftSun lights has become increasingly popular in large scale HD telecasts because they deliver superior color quality that helps to enhance the High Definition Experience.

A live television sports set using 3.6K SoftSun lights was constructed for CBS Sports at Super Bowl XLVII. The 3.6K SoftSun lights were used to the light the on-field set for CBS Sports at Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans. With their superior color rendering and the ability to dim with no color temperature shift the 3.6K SoftSun was the ideal light for this application.
Immediately after the power failure in New Orleans, the 3.6K Softsuns were used to light the on-field set for CBS Sports. The 3.6K’s do not require any warmup time, so they immediately came on and allowed CBS to broadcast from the field (this set was not involved in the power outage).
This live television sports set using 3.6K SoftSun lights was in New Orleans, LA.
